MAXXXINE Gets More Cast

MAXXXINE Gets More Cast

Ti West gave us X, a half-decent horror starring Mia Goth. Then came Pearl, a prequel to X, again with Goth in the main role. Now comes MaXXXine to finish off this trilogy.

MaXXXine is a sequel to Pearl and X. Maxine Minx, a burlesque dancer who is the sole survivor of the events in X. With dreams of becoming an adult film actress, she heads to the bright lights of Hollywood. The official blurb is:

“Maxine, after the events of X, as the sole survivor who continues her journey towards fame, setting out to make it as an actress in 1980s Los Angeles.”

I for one like the idea of this and am happy to watch Goth try to be an adult film star. Don’t act like you all don’t either!

The cast which has now been confirmed to join Goth is Kevin Bacon, Giancarlo Esposito, Lily Collins, Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan and Bobby Cannavale. Esposito is the man at the moment and is getting some good roles. In MaXXXine he plays an agent for the adult industry.

Bacon is playing a private detective, with Cannavale and Monaghan are LAPD detectives. I’m guessing that wherever MaXXXine goes, bodies start to pile up.

According to director West, the movie focuses on the dangerous world of underground filmmaking. He told Bloody Disgusting:

“What I can tell you is that we’re going to catch up with Maxine. And we’re going to find out what she’s up to. The way that X is a movie that is informed by and affected by independent exploitation auteur Americana and 1970s cinema, and Pearl is perhaps affected by the Golden Age of Hollywood and the glitz and glamor of cinema, MaXXXine will be more about within the industry itself and the boom of VHS.”

X wasn’t all that great. The movie had a great style about it, but the overall “creepy old people” felt like a letdown. Pearl was a lot better and Goth was excellent in it. I wonder how this trilogy will finish with MaXXXine?
