Back to Crystal Lake: Friday the 13th Prequel Series Ordered from A24 and Bryan Fuller

After a lengthy legal battle, it appears that we’ll finally be getting our first live action Friday the 13th content since 2009’s failed reboot movie. The new television series will be produced by Star Trek: Discovery creator Bryan Fuller in partnership with A24. Fuller had been working on the project as a rebooted film but it will now be transitioned to series that is expected to stream on Peacock, NBC’s streaming outlet.

Plot details of the show are being kept under wraps at this time, but it is expected to center on the early years of Jason Voorhees mother prior to the original movie but may end up being the precursor to another set of films now that some of the legal wranglings around the franchise have been put to bed.

“Friday the 13th is one of the most iconic horror franchises in movie history and we were dying to revisit this story with our upcoming drama series Crystal Lake,” said Susan Rovner, chairman of Entertainment Content at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “We can’t wait to get to work with Bryan Fuller, a gifted, visionary creator who I’ve had the pleasure of being a longtime friend and collaborator, along with our incredible partners at A24.”
